Anastomotic recurrence due to tumor implantation using the double stapling technique.

چکیده
The double stapling technique is indispensable in low anterior resection for colorectal cancer. However, to prevent local recurrences due to the driving of cancer cells into the anastomosis. Intraluminal lavage should be performed.

A rare case of repeated anastomotic recurrence due to tumor implantation after curative surgery for sigmoid colon cancer
BACKGROUND Anastomotic recurrence is often experienced at colocolic or colorectal anastomoses. Tumor cell implantation has been reported as the mechanism of anastomotic recurrence. However, anastomotic recurrence occurring repeatedly after curative surgery is rare. We herein report a rare case of repeated anastomotic recurrence after curative surgery for sigmoid colon cancer. CASE PRESENTATIO...
متن کاملThe Relationship Between the Number of Intersections of Staple Lines and Anastomotic Leakage After the Use of a Double Stapling Technique in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery
PURPOSE Laparoscopic intracorporeal colorectal anastomosis with double stapling technique is difficult because of unsuitable cutting angle in narrow pelvic cavity. For reasons of tilted and long linear staple line of rectal stump, circular anastomotic plane can make multiple intersections. The present study was designed to assess whether multiple intersections after double stapling technique is...
متن کاملTreatment of Colorectal Stricture After Circular Stapling Anastomoses
Performing an end-to-end low rectal anastomosis with the linear single stapling technique was first reported in 1979 (Ravitch & Steichen, 1979). An improved circular stapling technique for anterior resection of the rectum, i.e. double stapling technique, overcoming the problems of insertion of the purse-string on the rectum stump and of disparity in size between the rectum and colon was introdu...
متن کاملRecurrence of colonic cancer twice at the site of stapled colorectal anastomosis.
Recurrence at the site of a stapled anastomosis is generally believed to result from the luminal implantation of viable cancer cells during stapling. We report a case in which colon cancer recurred twice at the site of a stapled anastomosis, despite povidone iodine (PVP-I) lavage consisting of an enema with 5% PVP-I solution before the operation and intraoperative lavage of the rectal remnant a...
متن کاملRisk assessment on anastomotic leakage after rectal cancer surgery: an analysis of 753 patients.
PURPOSE To investigate the risk factors for anastomotic leakage (AL) after anterior resection for rectal cancer with a double stapling technique. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between January 2004 and December 2011, 753 consecutive patients in Jiangsu Cancer Hospital and Research Institute diagnosed with rectal cancer and undergoing anterior resection with a double stapling technique were recruited. A...
